information on deleting a mailman list
(is this up to date? ana)
Here is an example on deleting a list called email@example.com
log on to your shell a/c on lists.aktivix.org
aland@somme:~> cd /srv/lists.aktivix.org/mailman/bin/ aland@somme:~> sudo ./rmlist fnord
This keeps the archives of the list available
to remove the archives also do
aland@somme:~> cd /srv/lists.aktivix.org/mailman/bin/ aland@somme:~> sudo ./rmlist -a fnord
Here is how to set up a user for an @aktivix.org email address
This is for firstname.lastname@example.org
sudo /usr/sbin/useradd -s /bin/false -m \ -c "Some Comment - like created by BoneIdol 21-09-2006" \ -d /home/fizzgog fizzgog sudo chmod 711 /home/fizzgog sudo passwd fizzgog
Use vim ( or your favourite editor ) to edit the following files - read instructions about tabstops at the top. The users bit is hand added at the top/middle.. the lists entries are machine added at the bottom.
and then run SuSEConfig and add them to the users maillist
sudo /sbin/SuSEconfig sudo /usr/local/mailman/bin/add_members -r - users
Then it will wait for you to type the email address/es you want to subscribe to that list. When you finish, remember to type ctrl-D and it will be done
Text to send to old email address (suggestion)
I have now created your aktivix email address. You can log here:
You will be informed about a certificate. Always say "yes" or "ok". If you don't manage to log in, please download firefox on http://mozilla.com. It will allow you to log in to your aktivix address with an encrypted connection.
Your user name is ....
And your password is ...
Please log in as soon as possible (right now would be an excellent idea) and change your password immediately. To do this, click on Password, at the bottom of your screen. Please make sure your password is not a word you can find in a dictionary. Include at least one number, for instance.
In order to send emails, you will need to allow pop-up windows for aktivix.
You will probably see that your address is set up to be @burngreave.net. This is due to some necessary server settings. To change your outgoing email address, click on Inbox, then on Options, then on Personal Information, then on Edit your identities, select your default identity and write your address @aktivix.org in the field "Your From: address:"
There is some documentation on horde, the software we use for aktivix web mail, here:
Of course you can also set up your mail client to receive mail via pop or imap. Settings are:
POP Mail Server: springnight.burngreave.net
Security Settings: SSL (this will use port 995)
Outgoing server is the same - springnight.burngreave.net Select use TLS. The SMTP port will be 25.
If you have any questions you can email me or email@example.com, where there are other aktivix users. It would actually be an excellent idea to subscribe yourself there: http://lists.aktivix.org/aktivix-discuss
All the best
